Design Direction
The brand needed to honor The Root's deep connection to nature and the four elements, with earth being the focus. I drew inspiration from southwestern and Native American culture, developing preliminary sketches that explored organic forms and textures.
This textural quality became our throughline, extending into a custom hand-drawn pattern that could live alongside the logo across all brand touchpoints.
To balance these organic elements, I selected solid, clean, modern typography. This contrast was essential to anchor the lockup and allow for legibility at a glance.

Once the identity system was finalized, we expanded our work to include:
- Storefront signage design - Consultation on the interior colorscape and spatial design - Marketing collateral
Impact
The resulting brand identity successfully captures The Root's essence—a place where ancient practice meets modern community, where students are invited not just to move, but to belong.
